Why Would Anyone Want An AR-15?
Since last Friday we have heard a lot about bringing back the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, followed by “Besides, why would anyone want an AR-15?”.
In case you didn’t know the “A” and “R” in the name of the gun doesn’t mean Assault Rifle. It means Armalite, the first manufacturer. The round is surprisingly small, not any more in diameter than a 22 caliber, but with much more charge behind it. Even with all the features, the AR is light, easily balanced, and accurate up to 300 rounds. Even though it is NOT automatic, but SEMI-automatic, it looks menacing which is why it is getting so much flack lately.

So other than the functional benefits listed above, and being seriously cool, why would anyone want an AR-15?
-it is probably the most versatile rifle on the planet; with accessories suitable for self-defense, target shooting, competition shooting, and yes, if I were a hunter I would use
one.
-It isn’t necessarily protection from the Government, but Government break down. The menacing look of and AR-15 can communicate a serious message without firing a shot. Business owner David Soileau patrolled his neighborhood in Slidell, Louisiana with his.
Suspicious cars cruising by got one look at him with his AR, and thought twice about looting. Business owner Hung Woo, following the Rodney King verdict and subsequent riot, suffered no break in nor looting when he stood guard over his dry cleaning business with his AR-15.
-Most of all, the right to own an AR-15, like any other fire arm in the US, is guaranteed by the most fundamental document know to the free world-the Constitution of the United States. I quote, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”.
Note the Constitution does not say, “. . . to keep and bear certain types of arms. . . ”,
“. . . keep and bear Arms other than what the government deems unsafe. . . ”, “. . . keep and bear arms except those that might kill children in a first grade class. . . ”. This thing we call American freedom is not a simple, cheap, easy to come by way of life. It is complicated, difficult, expensive, and many times unfair and heart breaking. That is why it takes special, thoughtful, brave, and level headed people to keep and maintain it.
