Last week we were playing with the chronograph and liked it so much decided to use it again this week. It measures velocity of rounds in feet per second. It allows you to measure the performance of rounds, guns or both. Last week it was factory rounds verses hand loaded rounds. This week we’re measuring the difference between an 45 short barrel compact with a long barrel.
Firing five shots each of factory loaded ammunition my Springfield XDS averaged 748 feet per second, with a standard deviation of 12 ft/ per second. David "The Marine"Elderton’s Colt 1911 averaged 832 feet per second with a standard deviation of 7 feet per second. You can easily see the 1911 won the comparison. Whereas the XDS is more concealable and easier to carry, you can certainly see the difference in muzzle velocity and consistency.
By the way, David's ladies only basic shooting class is coming up at Heartland. Learn basic skills in a pressure free environment. Space is limited so call 330-5774 for more.
