Secretary of State Glenn Coffee said Friday he's stepping down to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
"After much thought and prayer, my wife and I decided it's time to start a new chapter. I'm very grateful for the opportunity Governor Fallin has given me," Coffee told KTOK.
Coffee was appointed Secretary of State by Governor Fallin in 2011. He said he'll remain in that office through the end of January.
Coffee was first elected to the state Senate in 1998 and served as Senate President Pro Tempore in 2007 and 2008.
Coffee said he'll make an announcment in the future about what his exact plans are in regards to the private sector.
