A 35-year-old Oklahoma City woman is the city's first homicide of 2013.

Oklahoma City Police say the body of Jenna Flippo was found in a yard along the 2800 block of SW 63rd Street early Saturday morning after police were notified that someone had apparently been assaulted near that location.

OKC Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow tells NewsRadio 1000 KTOK that the investigation led to a suspect in the case, 40-year-old David Nichols, Jr.  A few hours later, Del City Police reported that they had located Nichols near a convenience store near I-40 and Scott Street.

OKC Police took Nichols into custody and he's now facing a charge of first degree murder.

Sgt. Wardlow adds that there were wounds on Flippo's body consistent with trauma, but that the state Medical Examiner's Office will have to issue the report on the exact cause of her death.
