Another attempt to make some, if not all, county elections in Oklahoma non-partisan.
Republican Representative Josh Cockroft said for the first time ever, the Oklahoma Sheriff's Association has thrown its support behind his bill.
"Historically, the Tulsa delegation of sheriffs has been against this because we have a large Republican delegation up in Tulsa, while the Oklahoma City delegation has been for it," Cockroft told KTOK.
Cockroft's first bill will focus on sheriff elections. A second will focus on making all county elections non-partisan.
Cockroft says the issue is about ensuring the best candidiates are elected to county office, regardless of their political party.
A similar bill died during last year's session.
