Changing the law to make so-called "Black Friday" and other low-price retail sales legal in Oklahoma; it's a move by Republican Senator David Holt of Oklahoma City.
He says such sales are technically illegal in Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
"Those are basically the two most restrictive states," Holt told reporters. "Wal-Mart, as a retailer which does business in all 50 states, has made the judgement that in those two states they cannot offer the same "Black Friday" sales, and other sales we enjoy year-round."@
He said an opinion issued by the State Attorney General in 2011 confirms a state law dating back to the 1940s bans such low price sales.
Holt also said many Oklahomans drive to Texas to enjoy such savings.
"No retailer wants to get arrested or sued for charging a lower price," Holt said.
