Oklahoma's Republican Party is looking for a new chairman, as current chair Matt Pinnell has announced that he will be leaving that post when his term ends in April.

Pinnell says he's extremely proud of what the state GOP has accomplished during his tenure, as in holding all the major statewide elected offices, all Oklahoma's Congressional seats, and the majority in both houses of the state legislature.

Pinnell tells NewsRadio 1000 KTOK that it's time for him to spend more time on his growing family, as he and his wife, Lisa, have three children.

At one time the youngest Republican Party state chairman in the nation, Pinnell says whoever is tapped to become the new chairman "will inherit a well-oiled machine with solid fundraising totals and a record number of Republican elected officials and voter registrations."

Keeping his options open as he ponders his future, Pinnell did say that maybe there will be a position at the national Republican Party level for him somewhere down the road, "maybe in the 2014 or 2016 election cycle," but that for now, he wants to enjoy the time with his family and to help the new GOP state chairman any way he can.

No word yet on a timeline for the state GOP to name a new chairman.
