A bill to make it illegal for any court, tribunal or administrative agency in the state to base rulings or decisions on foreign law, passes the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

It's a bill run by Republican Representative Sally Kern, of Oklahoma City.

"This bill would protect Oklahoma citizens from having to be submissive to foreign law. We are Americans," Kern told House members.

The bill's seen by some as a response to State Question 755, which was passed by voters in 2010. That measure prohibited state courts from using international law or Sharia law when making rulings. It was opposed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and other groups. 

In 2012, State Question 755 was ruled unconstitutional by the 10th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals.

On Wednesday, Kern's bill received opposition from some lawmakers, including Democratic Representative Emily Virgin of Norman.

"Representative Kern, would you believe I think it's ridiculous to propose a law that is a solution looking for a problem?"

"I do belive that," Kern responded.

Kern's bill passed 81 to 11 after several questions, but without debate. It advances on to the Senate.
