Turns out some Moore residents rode out the tornado while huddled in mural-dazzled a storm shelter.
Doug Jedele says last year, he let neighborhood kids paint the walls of his shelter.
"They came down here with all kinds of colored paints and put their handprints on there and signed their names. Drew pictures. They made it really pretty so it's a really happy place, for all of us."
Perhaps the most profound decoration is a phrase writtne by a beloved friend which reads: "Not only are we neighbors, we are family."
Doug said he and his wife, Jan, were out of town when Monday's tornado struck, but they made sure neighbors had access to the colorful shelter.
