Organizers of the sixth annual Pumpkin Palooza in Hobart said it wasn't intentional, but Saturday's Pumpkin Chunkin' contest will feature pumpkins from Texas.
Hobart Main Street Program Director Stephen Boyd said the pumpkins are launched from air cannons, and they can go as far as 3,000 feet.
Boyd said they usually use pumpkins from a farm near Colony, but this year the pumpkins are rotting, so they had to go to an area near Lubbock,Texas.
"We weren't aware of any other pumpkin farms around, so we knew of a couple of farms around Floydada, Texas. That's where we went to get them," Boyd told KTOK.
Boyd said it's merely coincidental that Texas pumpkins are being used on this O.U. vs. Texas weekend.
"We're gonna smash, explode, bombard Texas pumpkins," Boyd laughed.
Saturday's festivities also feature a variety of events on the Kiowa County Courthouse Square, including pumpkin decorating and a craft show.
