The Oklahoma City Council, considering possible improvements to Metro Transit bus shelters. Council members are talking about dealing with bus shelters which are not compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.
Council members heard from city resident Diana Bowers, who said she can't drive due to a visual disability, and has used city buses since 1974. She wants bus shelters to be wheelchair accessible.
"If you think about the bus shelter at 23rd and Villa, by Shepard Mall. There's no way for a wheelchair to get up on that grass, to get to the bus. What kind of thinking is that?"
The council's discussing such possible improvements.
Other ideas tossed around include using money from a city rainy day fund for street improvements.
