The state Board of Education voted Tuesday to request an investigative audit of the Bell School District.

Bell's being annexed to the Stillwell and Belfonte school districts in northeastern Oklahoma's Adair County.

State Schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett says the receiving districts need to know everything about Bell's financial situation.

Garrett says the results of the audit will determine what, if any, further action is necessary.

The board last week voted 5-1 to deny the district state funding and accreditation.

Officials said then that an audit of the district revealed violations of state and federal laws regarding its finances and that the district had broken its own policies and procedures.

The district has had three superintendents in the past year.

Bell had 110 kindergarten through eighth-grade students in the 2009-2010 school year. About 97 percent of the district's students are members of the Cherokee Nation.
