Former state trooper Patrick Venable appeared for arraignment Tuesday, in Logan County District Court. The 27-year-old Venable is charged with second-degree rape. Court records show on June 20th 2011, Venable made a traffic stop on the Broadway Extension in Oklahoma City. Documents show Venable determined a female motorist was driving under the influence of alcohol, and he ordered her into his partrol car. Records indicate while the woman was in custody, Venable took her to her Guthrie home and had sex with her. If convicted, Venable could be sentenced to as many as 15 years in prison. Venable's next scheduled court date is September 22nd, when a preliminary hearing date will likely be set. Venable resigned from the Department of Public Safety, after an internal investigation was launched.
