Longtime Oklahoma sportscaster Bob Barry Sr., known for his years as the

voice of OU and OSU, died Sunday at his home in Norman. He was 80 and retired just a year ago during his second stint as the voice of the Sooners at the University of Oklahoma.

    Barry spent more than half a century in sports, getting his start in Norman at KNOR radio. He was chosen by OU football coach Bud Wilkensen to be the voice of the Sooners in 1961 and held the job until 1972 when he switched to Oklahoma State where he did play by play announcing from 1973 to 1990.  He also spent a year as the voice of the University of Tulsa basketball team.  Barry returned to doing the OU coverage in 1991 and retired last year.

   Throughout his career, he did sports for KFOR TV from 1966 until 2008. His funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the St. John Episcopal church in Norman.
