Oklahoma City's newest stretch of Interstate 40 is now fully open, east and westbound lanes.
The westbound opening came Sunday morning and traffic was halted on the old I-40 Crosstown. Work is already underway on demolishing the elevated portion of the crosstown as the bridge has been plagued by pot holes and other problems over the past several years.
Westbound traffic is diverted to the new I-40 just east of Bricktown where a skeleton of the elevated I-40 can be seen by motorists. The State Transportation Department estimates it will take 18 months to tear down the old I-40 and replace it with a ground-level thoroughfare.
